Irish Singer Mary Black Cancels Concerts Due To Illness

DUBLIN, Republic Of Ireland (CelebrityAccess) — Irish folk singer Mary Black, was forced to cancel several shows this weekend after she was hospitalized with a viral infection.

A statement from her manager and husband Joe O’Reilly said: I’m so sorry to say that Mary is not well enough to perform this weekend in Vicar St.(20th and 21st April). She is very upset at having to reschedule these concerts but has no alternative as she is extremely weak after her spell in hospital. She has been strongly advised by her doctors to rest and be well enough to complete the rest of the tour. “”

“The dates have been postponed and rescheduled for Aug. 24th and 25th. Again, sincere apologies to all who have been inconvenienced by this,” O’Reilly added.

Her next scheduled performances are set to take place on April 27th at the Landmark Hotel in Carrick-On-Shannon and then on April 28th at Burnavon Theatre in Cookstown, Ireland.

Earlier this week, Black revealed that she had been hospitalized at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Dublin, after postponing several gigs the week before.

“I am so sorry to have to postpone two gigs this weekend – at the INEC, Killarney, and the Woodlands Hotel in Waterford,” she wrote in the statement released earlier this week. “I was sick last weekend but I managed to get through two concerts on Friday and Saturday night. However, my health has gotten progressively worse,”

Numerous news outlets in the UK reported that Black was suffering from shingles, as well as an ear and throat infection.

Black is known both for her interpretations of both traditional and modern folk music, and her remarkable singing voice, which “What Hi-Fi?” magazine used as its benchmark for comparing sound quality on high-end audio systems.
