BOISE, ID (CBS2) — Idaho First Tech Teams across the Gem State converged at Scott Lowell Middle School over the weekend to battle it out for the title of Idaho First Tech State Champion!
This statewide competition is considered the ultimate sport for the mind.
27 Idaho teams competed in the championship with 2 teams coming from Utah.
Teams are challenged to design a robot, then completely build and program that robot to battle it out against competitor robots.
"This years challenge has little pixels, which are the hexagonal shaped 3-D printed items that they can pick up and put in different places on the field throughout the event," explains Idaho First Tech's Executive Director LisaLalliss-Skogsberg. "The first 15 seconds is autonomous, its pre programmed they don't do anything with their systems then they are able to pick up their systems and drive it for the rest of the time."
According to the FIRST Idaho Tech, FIRST Tech League introduces science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) to children ages 12-18 through fun, exciting hands-on learning!
